To understand the value of fragrance one needs to look back to when our ancestors discovered fire. Imagine the thrill of discovery as man realised that wood and plant material could be dried and kindled to produce hats.

As different woods and plant pieces burned, so different fragrances drifted up into the air, affecting mood and well-being; in fact the word “perfume” comes from the latin per fumen, meaning “through smoke”.
